About  

The Choi Lab is an interdisciplinary research group dedicated to improving health and quality of life for individuals facing serious and life-threatening illness. Our work examines the biological, clinical, behavioral, and psychosocial factors that shape patient outcomes, with the goal of developing strategies that support resilience, recovery, and healthy living.

Rooted at the intersection of clinical medicine, translational science, and patient-oriented research, our lab designs, tests, and implements novel interventions to prevent complications, improve symptom management, and enhance long-term well-being. We conduct rigorous clinical trials, leverage digital health technologies and wearable sensors, integrate multi-modal data streams, and apply advanced analytics to better understand how disease and treatment affect physical, mental, and social health.

Our research program focuses on three interconnected themes:

These themes reflect our commitment to bringing together innovative ideas, technologies, methods, and collaborators to address complex challenges in healthcare. Through this work, we aim to generate actionable insights that can improve monitoring, personalize supportive care, and ultimately enhance outcomes for patients and communities.

Mentorship and training are also central to the Choi Lab mission. We are committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and rigorous research environment for trainees across disciplines, including medicine, public health, informatics, computer science, mathematics, human-computer interaction, behavioral science, and policy. Our lab supports the next generation of scientists by emphasizing rigorous study design, ethical research practices, collaborative scholarship, and career development aligned with each trainee’s goals, skills, and values.
